I hate fakes - The poisoned book, including adventure and reality : "There are good reasons
The signing of the best known Italian intellectual living: Umberto Eco. Among the slogans taken into account before launching an inevitable reference to check the main literary event in our recent history. Thirty years from The Name of the Rose (which is estimated to be in circulation about nine million copies worldwide), this new book, which is intended to repeat the success numeric or not, marks a key milestone. Obviously the contents of the latest work of author and semiotician applies the strictest confidence. On the eve of a great novel, the element of surprise is essential, and any attempt to violate it would be foolish and very risky. Yet in this case the author has scattered, perhaps with some malice, the path of signals that in hindsight lead in some direction. It is thought that this will be a book devoted to issues which the Jewish minority is understandably very sensitive. If the expectation is high, attention in the Jewish camp, here or elsewhere, might be more so. We try to put together the few clues left in the sunlight. Beginning with the title. There are several cemeteries in the Bohemian city. But when you say "the cemetery of Prague" there is little doubt: it refers to the world's most famous Jewish cemetery. A place of the old ghetto celebrated legends that tell of alchemists capable of turning any metal into gold, rabbis by magic, huge and powerful robots, mysteries, ghosts and stories of Jews is always hovering between hope and persecution, success and disaster. No one can rule out that Eco, in the footsteps of Meyrink's novels and film, Wegener, wanted to dedicate his latest effort by the myth of the Golem of Prague ghetto and more mysterious and fascinating. But at least there is another possible track. The cemetery in Prague is not only a field crowded with rocks eroded by time. It 's also a territory of the collective imagination, the place where some of the great forgers of hate anti-Jewish imagine you wanted to carry out the conspiracy of Jews willing to take over the world. The laboratory where all the myths are made of hate, the repulsive cultural and ideological arsenal that supported the advocates of racism and genocide. There they met, according to the authors of the first demented anti-Semitic novels that were appearing in the late nineteenth century and the debut of the last century, the influential factions of phantom power to betray their thirst for money and power. And from there they got the moves even the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the most glaring and notorious false hatred. It would only literature of the lowest level, if had not been used, with much higher expectations of success by the authors themselves, to practice genocide and massacre millions of innocent people. The reading of Eco's books shows his literary work is always forward along the narrow passage between the history, the great knowledge and the novel, the call of adventure. E are constant elements that bring the reader to those areas between Piedmont and Lombardy related to the experience of the author and are so important in the interpretation of our identity. An analysis of many writings reveals how the Eco semiologist is an expert analyst and refined by the library of the great false hatred. His light is the introduction The Plot to the masterpiece designed by Will Eisner that unmasks actors and agents of the messy history of the Protocols (Italian edition of The Plot, publisher Einaudi). His bold statements that have the opposite to the myth of an Italy-Semitism in order to protect the fact that in the presence of a moderate component of hatred by the people, just the intellectual and religious Italians have offered to the theorists of anti-Semitism means conclusive. In any case, and of course without putting the slightest doubt in the best intentions of a rigorous intellectual and transparent, it seems that in the coming weeks will return to the protocols of hatred under the eyes of many readers. And as for the logic, culture and honest evidence of the facts so incontrovertible unmount any unhealthy stream, it is always better to stay with her eyes open. Here, waiting to read the new novel, the reason for this dossier. Also because, to quote the author of the Cemetery of Prague, "what is amazing is that this falsehood is reborn from its ashes every time someone showed that it was a fake. Beyond all doubt ".
